FRS/GMRS mobile transceiver
Hi guys: Is there such thing as a mobile two-way radio that can use the frs and gmrs channels just like a regular handheld family radio?
I would like to find one that can go in the car and looks like a mobile CB radio but is able to work on the frs/gmrs channels.
Radio Shack had one when the service (FRS) first came out BUT here are some facts:
GMRS is a licensed band, meaning you actually have to buy a license from the FCC to broadcast there.. most mass marketers don’t push that fact and this is the reason why you get the excellent range on some channels for..cause you are broadcasting illegally on higher powered GMRS frequencies.
GMRS can use business band equipment meaning a setup that looks like a CB in a way but more looks like a radio you’d find in a police or fire vehicle and is channelized just like them

FRS radios are mandated to have the radio attached to the antenna and the reason you can’t get them usually without them being a handheld for (The radio shack version had the radio in the base of the antenna and the inside part was mainly a microphone)
