About David Harvey, VK2DMH

David Harvey VK2DMH is the publisher of WalkieTalkieTwoWayRadios.com, and the author of almost every article on the web site. He holds an Advanced class Amateur Radio class license (AOCP), and has been assigned the call letters or callsign VK2DMH. David originally held the radio callsign VK2NWN when he was first licensed as a Novice radio operator back in 1978.

David is involved with his local ham radio community and one of the team of volunteer news readers who help with the VK2WI news broadcasts from Amateur Radio New South Wales (ARNSW) in Dural, Australia, north of Sydney. He is also active in WICEN New South Wales, the emergency communications network of the ARNSW (and formerly the Wireless Institute of Australia).

David, VK2DMH, is also a member of WICEN NSW, a group of trained Amateur Radio Operators who offer their time and expert knowledge as radio technicians to set up radio communications links to help the community with special events or in time of disasters.

WICEN volunteers provide their own two-way radio equipment, and are able to  operate check points or command posts during events, such as lengthy boat races, horse enduros and search and rescue operations.  Most times they make use of VHF or UHF radios, on the 2-meter or 70-cms ham bands, where there is a network of Amateur Radio repeater stations available to extend the effective range for communications. And some of the operators have HF radio transceivers also, which can be used to communicate several hundred kilometers (or miles) or even more, without radio repeaters.
