Re-program a mobile radio for VHF Marine Band?
by David Harvey VK2DMH on Friday, July 31st, 2009 | 1 Comment
I own a Kenwood TK-7100 VHF mobile radio right now, and I would like to use it in my new boat.
Is it possible to have the radio channels reprogrammed so I can use it as a VHF Marine Band radio?
I don’t know if I should resell the transceiver and go buy one that is made specifically for that purpose.
Which is the best way to go?

They make radios especially for marine use.
I’ve also seen watertight covers that flip down over the face plate, to keep it dry. Might be useful if you have to use a non-marine rated unit
