Can I use repeaters with FRS radios?

Can FRS two-way radios use repeaters, or are the channels all simplex?
Does the FRS (Family Radio Service) allow the use of repeaters or it it a simplex communications system?
I want to get some handheld radios that can use repeaters because I want the extra range that will give to my radio coverage.

FRS is simplex only.
To use repeaters, you need a GMRS radio and license, and agreement to use a repeater.
Yes, repeaters use duplex radio channels, where you transmit on one channel listen on another. The repeater listens on your transmit frequency, amplifies the signal and re-broadcasts it on a different frequency.
You can buy a GMRS radio (or a pair of them) and fill in an application form for a license from the FCC. You then need to find a local repeater you would like to use and contact the owner. Expect to pay an access fee and/or join a club to use their repeater, because repeaters and their towers cost a lot of money to set up and to maintain.
